Mr. Crowley brings over 30 years of jury trial experience to the areas of personal injury, wrongful death, nursing home elder abuse and neglect, auto/motorcycle/bicycle accidents, uninsured motorist disputes, logging accidents, product liability, sexual harassment, business litigation, and class action matters.
Mr. Crowley has obtained multiple settlements and verdicts in excess of a million dollars for clients. In 2010, Mr. Crowley was one of the lead trial counsel at Janssen Malloy LLP who tried a six month jury trial that resulted in Humboldt County’s largest recorded jury verdict ($677 million).
Mr. Crowley has qualified in Superior Court as an expert witness on valuation of damages.
2011 PUBLIC JUSTICE NATIONAL TRIAL LAWYER OF THE YEAR AWARD
Public Justice, America’s public interest law firm, selected Mr. Crowley for its National Trial Lawyer of the Year award at a ceremony in New York City in 2011. The recognition was based on Mr. Crowley’s work as one of the lead trial counsel in the Lavender vs. Skilled Healthcare Group, Inc. ("Skilled"), litigation, which resulted in a $677 million verdict against a corporate nursing home chain that had understaffed its facilities below the state required minimum staffing requirements. The Skilled verdict is the largest verdict in Humboldt County history, and the largest recorded jury verdict in the country against a nursing home operator, as well as being the largest jury verdict in the United States for the year 2010. Mr. Crowley and his co-counsel from Janssen Malloy LLP are the only lawyers in Humboldt County to ever receive this national honor.
2011 CONSUMER ATTORNEYS OF CALIFORNIA ATTORNEY OF THE YEAR AWARD
Consumer Attorneys of California selects one case each year for recognition based on the skilled work involved and the impact that the case has on consumers in California. In a ceremony located in San Francisco, in November 2011, Mr. Crowley and his colleagues in theSkilled trial team, were awarded the Consumer Attorney of the Year Award. Mr. Crowley and his co-counsel at Janssen Malloy LLP are the only Humboldt County personal injury attorneys to ever receive this award.
2010 CALIFORNIA LAWYER OF THE YEAR
In 2010, Mr. Crowley was selected by California Lawyer magazine for their CLAY (California Lawyer Attorney of the Year) award. Mr. Crowley was selected for his extraordinary achievement in the field of elder law based on his work as one of the lead trial counsel in the Skilled case which resulted in a $677 million verdict. Mr. Crowley received the award in San Francisco from California Supreme Court Chief Justice, Tani Cantil-Sakauye.

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA SUPER LAWYER
Mr. Crowley has been selected to the Northern California Super Lawyers list every year since 2010 as one of the top attorneys in California. No more than 5% of the lawyers in the state are selected by Super Lawyers for this designation. Super Lawyers, part of Thomson Reuters, is a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The selection process is multiphasic and includes independent research, peer nominations and peer evaluations.
Mr. Crowley graduated Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Boston College in 1978. He attended the University of San Francisco Law School, receiving his Juris Doctor degree in 1981.
Mr. Crowley has also represented numerous clients in high profile elder abuse cases. Mr. Crowley and his co-counsel and law partner, Mr. Patrik Greigo of Janssen Malloy LLP, handled the seminal case of Fitzhugh v. Granada Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, LLC (2007) 150 Cal.App.4th 469. Mr. Crowley and Mr. Griego successfully argued before the California Court of Appeal to preserve the right to a jury trial for surviving spouses and children claiming elder abuse of their loved ones, in the face of a corporate defendant’s effort to force the case into arbitration.
Mr. Crowley recently obtained a unanimous appellate court decision in the First District Court of Appeal in the case of Monschke v. Timber Ridge Assisted Living, view the court's decision here, preserving our clients' right to proceed to jury trial in the face of the facility defendant's attempt to force the case into arbitration.
COMMUNITY AND LEGAL SERVICES INVOLVEMENT
Mr. Crowley is a member of the State Bar of California and the Humboldt County Bar Association. He is admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. He served on the Board of Governors for the Consumer Attorneys of California from 2003 through 2008. He has served for many years on the pro bono panel for Legal Services of Northern California. He is also a captain and firefighter with the Kneeland California Volunteer Fire Department.
