Humboldt County is famous for its Dungeness crab fishery, and crab fishing is vital to its local economy and the many crab fishermen who harvest the tasty crustaceans. Unfortunately, this year’s season was canceled due to health concerns from an unacceptable level of a neurotoxin detected in tests.
It was today announced that Federal assistance for affected fisherman may be available in the form of SBA loans. Applications can be made at the Humboldt Bay Harbor and District conference room on Thursday from 8-5 and again Friday from 8-1. Appointments are not required. For those unable to attend, information is available from the SBA Disaster Assistance Center Customer Relations at 800-659-2955.
Janssen Malloy LLP has long been assisting commercial fishermen and Associations in California and Oregon in business and regulatory concerns specific to this crucial industry.
