Physician Relief Fund Available

Health care providers may get some relief from the $175 billion CARES Act Provider Relief Fund.  The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recently announced a $20 billion round of funding for health care providers, to be dispersed based on a percentage of each provider’s 2018 net patient revenue. The funds are grants and will not need to be repaid. While hospitals that submitted cost reports to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) automatically received direct deposits, physicians will need to apply to HHS for payments.  Providers with a Medicare billing TIN  are eligible to apply by submitting data about annual revenue and estimated COVID-related losses revenue for March and April 2020.  via the Provider Relief Fund General Distribution Portal.  There is a high demand for these relief funds, and physicians are encouraged to prepare supporting documentation and make their applications as soon as possible.  Please see the HHS’s FAQ sheet for additional information, which can be found here: https://www.hhs.gov/sites/default/files/20200425-general-distribution-portal-faqs.pdf
